Welcome to Adfer Medical Group

Adfer Medical Group was formed in October 2001 with the amalgamation of two long-established practices in the Llanelli area - Old Road Surgery and Llwynhendy Health Centre. The Old Road Surgery site has closed down and Adfer Medical Group has already seen a major redevelopment with its new town centre site at Thomas Street. The practice has recently completed a major redevelopment of its Llwynhendy site with purpose-built modern health care premises.

We have 11 doctors, who share their time between the two premises in Llanelli town centre and Llwynhendy. The practice is a training practice and also regularly takes in medical students. The doctors have certain areas of specialisation in addition to their daily surgeries. This is carried out in the form of many clinics we run. The practice is at the forefront of innovation within the National Health Service, working in conjunction with Carmarthenshire NHS Trust to provide an integrated pathology link, together with physiotherapy, dietetics and podiatry treatment. Retinopathy screening for Llanelli is also undertaken at the town centre site. At our Llwynhendy site, Carmarthenshire nhs Trust has also dedicated staff undertaking speech and language services for Llanelli. At both sites the practice works closely with pharmaceutical services within local pharmacies. Carmarthenshire Local Health Board, together with the local nhs Trust, also intend to reprovide community dental services at the Llwynhendy practice. The practice has close links with the local community it serves and currently based at our Llwynhendy site are the community's first project team.

The day-to-day running of the practice is organised by our practice manager. The practice has a business partner who works closely with the doctors to implement new developments and manages the business. The practice is fully computerised and we employ many administrative staff who are there to help you. We have highly experienced practice nurses and an attached team of district nurses, midwives and health visitors. Together we aim to provide our practice population with the best care possible.
