ADFER MEDICAL GROUP NEWSLETTER – NOVEMBER 2005 Llwynhendy Health Centre Re-Development The doctors of Adfer Medical Group have for some time been investigating ways in which to redevelop and enhance services it provides to patients of Llwynhendy and the surrounding area. Much discussion has taken place with the Local Health Board, Carmarthenshire NHS Trust and the practice developer (Gaufron Healthcare) to ensure that plans reflect the needs of patients, provided within a safe, modern, purpose-built healthcare premises. Doctors are now at a stage when plans have been finalised, legal agreements signed and the development can begin. The bulldozers have moved in and begun to demolish the old Carmarthenshire Trust Health Centre. Many concerns have been raised by patients of Lwynhendy over the time that has elapsed while waiting for funding to be formally approved (September 2005) and legal agreements signed and drawn up (November 2005). The practice has endeavoured to keep patients informed with displays at its Town Centre site (where Llwynhendy patients have been temporarily relocated) and patient information leaflets. Activity on the site will provide welcome reassurance to the patients of Llwynhendy of the practice commitment to the scheme. The practice developer Gaufron Healthcare has moved in to start the work of knocking down the existing premises, and clearing the site so that the timber frame construction can begin in the New Year. The developer has stated that within 9 months he expects to see the surgery finalised, particulary if the dry cold spell of weather continues. Some Doctors and members of staff were on site recently for a final look at the old premises before it comes down and they look forward to moving back into the building hopefully in September 2006.
